The MiChart Physician Builder Program at UMHS

Summary

UMHS has an expanding Physician Builder (PB) Program comprised of physicians working on developing tools for MiChart, the UMHS electronic health record.

My experience with the program has been fantastic.

The work is highlighted by collaborating with great colleagues in many areas and disciplines working together to make our EHR better.

The journey starts by asking to be a PB or being nominated for the role then going to Epic in Wisconsin for a two day course.  Additional courses are available with increasing complexity.

Any institution who has installed Epic as the EHR can define which physicians can become PB's.

Many PB's chose an area of focus within the EHR.

My focus is in three areas:

  • identifying methods to improve the physician User Experience (UX) and
  • the interface between the EHR and clinical reasoning

If you are a clinician at UMHS and you like digging deep into the EHR, learn more about the program.
